Summer is here again and everyone wants to have or relax. Most people would like to go the beach, but there are some very unusual activities that people like to do when the weather gets hot. Here are a few strange things we can do in the UK.
Every year on a small island called the Isle of Man, we have the World Tin Bath Championship where competitors from all over the world come to Castletown harbour to race on water in metal bathtubs. You win if you complete the course or if your boat sinks last! The event helps to raise money for local charities.
On the last Monday in May, people go to the top of Cooper s Hill near Gloucester and chase cheese which is being rolled down the hill. It is not an event for the fainthearted because many people break bones every year as they race down the very steep 200meter slope. If you catch the cheese, you get to take it home!
This year on July 15th, you could have attended the World Snail Racing Championships. People bring their racing snail to a village in Norfolk. When the referee shouts Ready Steady Slow! they watch as their snail goes around a 13in (33cm) course.Last year s winner Herbie 2 completed the course in 3minutes and 25seconds.
So if you are visiting the UK, yes you could see Buckingham Palace or the Tower of London, but why not go and see England at it s eccentric best?
